Your Skill, Your Wealth 2024
"Your Skill, Your Wealth" empowered youth by funding their catering and baking training, leading to certification. Graduates received essential kitchen tools to help launch their careers and achieve financial independence.
The "Your Skill, Your Wealth" (YSYW 24) program, an initiative focused on youth empowerment spearheaded by the Igbo Women Movement Worldwide (IWMW) and financially backed by the VVIP Royal Friends Club, delivered vocational training in baking to ten disadvantaged youths. The primary objective of this endeavor was to furnish participants with practical skills conducive to self-employment and financial autonomy.
In March 2024, the VVIP Royal Friends Club made a substantial donation of ₦1,000,000, enabling the program to expand its scope by offering training to an additional ten youths. Each participant received comprehensive assistance, including full coverage of their six-month tuition, a transportation stipend, and essential kitchen tools to enrich their educational experience. The total investment per trainee amounted to ₦80,000, with allocated funds for tuition fees, travel expenses, and registration obligations.
Upon finishing the training program, each participant demonstrated their proficiency by creating a three-tiered cake as a culminating project. This assignment not only served as a practical application of their acquired knowledge but also showcased the quality and innovation nurtured during the training period. To ensure the success of this final exhibition, IWMW absorbed the additional costs associated with materials.
In a bid to fully empower these budding bakers, the program endeavors to equip each trainee with an oven to aid in the establishment of their own enterprises. Efforts are currently underway to secure additional backing for procuring gas or dual-fuel ovens, enabling each graduate to embark on their entrepreneurial journey equipped with the necessary tools.
The YSYW 24 program has effectively equipped ten youths with accredited baking skills, setting them on a trajectory towards sustainable self-employment. This initiative not only imparted immediate vocational training but also sowed the seeds of enduring economic empowerment within the community. Sustained provision of essential equipment, such as ovens, will further fortify the groundwork for each graduate's future in the baking sector.
